The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is welcoming yesterday's announcement from Southlake Health and the Government of Ontario supporting the development of a new hospital in East Gwillimbury as part of a broader transformation to a Distributed Health Network.
This milestone represents a significant investment in the future of healthcare across northern York Region and southern Simcoe County, helping to ensure residents have greater access to high-quality, connected care closer to home.
While the new acute care hospital will be located in East Gwillimbury, the Town recognizes the strong regional benefits this project will deliver for Bradford West Gwillimbury residents and families. The Distributed Health Network model will enhance patient care by expanding services across multiple locations, including hospital campuses and community-based Advanced Care Centres. This approach presents a clear opportunity to bring more services closer to home, which the Town will continue to champion in partnership with its healthcare partners.
The Town will continue working collaboratively with Southlake Health, the Ontario Health Team, and the Province to advance additional primary care services, community-based healthcare facilities, and expanded local care options for residents.
The announcement also includes a provincial investment of $10 million to support planning for both the new hospital and the redevelopment of the existing Davis Drive campus, reinforcing a long-term commitment to modern, integrated healthcare across the region.
“Yesterday's announcement marks meaningful progress in strengthening healthcare for our growing region,” said Mayor James Leduc. “While the new hospital will be located in East Gwillimbury, this is part of a broader, connected system that will benefit our residents in many ways. We will continue to work with our partners to bring more primary care services and healthcare infrastructure to Bradford West Gwillimbury, ensuring our community is well-served now and into the future.”
The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury looks forward to continuing its strong collaboration with Southlake Health, municipal partners, and the Province as planning and design move forward on this transformative initiative.
