School buses play an integral role in helping students get to and from school. For those students who commute by bus, please see some safety tips below:
Before getting on the bus:
- Arrive at the bus stop before the bus arrives.
- Wait for the bus to arrive, maintaining a safe distance from the road.
After getting off the bus:
- Walk when crossing the road, never run.
- Always cross at the front of the bus and never behind.
- If possible, try to make eye contact with the bus driver and wait for a signal that it’s safe to cross.
- Before crossing the street, look in both directions.
- Be aware of the “danger zone” or ten steps away from and surrounding the bus. In this zone, the bus driver cannot see you.
