School Bus Safety

School buses play an integral role in helping students get to and from school. For those students who commute by bus, please see some safety tips below:

Before getting on the bus:

  • Arrive at the bus stop before the bus arrives.
  • Wait for the bus to arrive, maintaining a safe distance from the road.

After getting off the bus:

  • Walk when crossing the road, never run.
  • Always cross at the front of the bus and never behind.
  • If possible, try to make eye contact with the bus driver and wait for a signal that it’s safe to cross.
  • Before crossing the street, look in both directions.
  • Be aware of the “danger zone” or ten steps away from and surrounding the bus. In this zone, the bus driver cannot see you.
