In the spirit of reconciliation, we invite the community to memorialize the children lost to the residential school system and honour survivors, their families, and their communities.
Join us for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at the BWG Leisure Centre, 471 West Park Avenue, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Join us at 5:00 pm for a Smudge and flag raising ceremony, and a story board walk along Public Square.
Here are other events happening leading up to September 30:
September 25 | 6-8 pm
- Reception for Indigenous Art Installation, Flight of the Knowledge Keepers by Annwin.
- BWG Public Library, Zima Room & Café | 425 Holland Street West
September 26-30
- Storyboard Walk along Public Square
- Town buildings illuminated in Orange
With the support of our friends at Odenaang Circle, we developed an online story map that can be viewed throughout the entire year, which shares the stories of the residential school system and the history of colonization. View the story map at www.townofbwg.com/NDTR
If you are unable to attend the event, we invite you to take part in the National Commemorative Gathering: Remembering the Children – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This 90-minute commemorative event is hosted by APTN and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and highlights survivors as well as Indigenous artists. The event will be broadcast live from Parliament Hill, starting at 3:00 pm (ET) on the APTN channel and on several major television and radio networks.
