Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides

WHEREAS: the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides is a cherished national tradition, held in communities across every province of Canada; and

WHEREAS: this year marks the 40th Anniversary of this remarkable event, united under the inspiring theme: “Bright Futures. Countless Possibilities.” and.

WHEREAS: Whereas the Walk raises essential funds for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, an organization dedicated to empowering Canadians with disabilities by providing life-changing Dog Guides at no cost to those in need; and

WHEREAS: it takes $35,000 to raise, train, and match just one Dog Guide, and seven distinct types of service dogs—Canine Vision, Hearing, Service, Seizure Response, Autism Assistance, Diabetes Alert, and Facility Support—are provided to assist individuals across a broad range of needs; and

WHEREAS: these efforts have already raised more than $22 million, thanks to the tireless commitment of local volunteers and the unwavering support of communities nationwide.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim, honour and celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides. May this year’s walk continue to open doors, change lives, and shine a light on the bright futures made possible through the love and loyalty of every Dog Guide
