BWG Proclaims International Youth Day 2025

International Youth Day – August 12, 2025

WHEREAS: the United Nations designates August 12 of each year as International Youth Day, as an opportunity to draw attention to youth issues worldwide and celebrate the contributions of young people to their communities and to sustainable development; and

WHEREAS: the 2025 theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” highlights the role of young people in implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within their communities; and

WHEREAS: the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury has recently demonstrated its commitment to amplifying youth voices and participation, notably through the establishment of a Youth Council Advisory Committee, empowering young people to contribute to local governance, planning, and civic life; and

WHEREAS: youth leadership and innovative ideas are crucial for tackling local and global challenges like climate change, social equity, and inclusive governance;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council, proclaim August 12, 2025, as International Youth Day in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, inviting all sectors of the community to honor youth contributions, and actively engage in and promote youth-driven activities that foster sustainability and community development.
