Garden Week
June, 2025
WHEREAS: in 1975, a dedicated group of passionate gardeners, including Audrey Wychopen, Ted and Lynda Usher, Bill Markwick, and Olga and Bill Bishop, founded the Bond Head & District Horticultural Society with a vision to share and promote the joys of gardening; and
WHEREAS: the Society has since played a pivotal role in enhancing the beauty of our community, promoting the benefits of gardening, and providing opportunities for learning and growth; and
WHEREAS: through the years, the Bond Head & District Horticultural Society, now known as the Bond Head-Bradford Garden Club, has continued to unite the residents of Bradford West Gwillimbury, offering a variety of educational workshops, guest speakers, plant sales, garden tours, and floral displays that beautify our town; and
WHEREAS: the Club has made significant contributions to the development of public gardens, including the Audrey Wychopen Memorial Parkette and Rotary Park, and has worked to preserve the town’s natural beauty while expanding knowledge of gardening; and
WHEREAS: gardens provide a deep connection between humankind and nature, serve as vital habitats for pollinators, offer peaceful retreats for residents, and inspire creativity, relaxation, and community spirit; and
WHEREAS: it is fitting to celebrate and recognize the positive impact that gardening and the work of the Bond Head/Bradford Garden Club have on our community and the environment.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council the week of June 23, 2025, as Garden Week in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury in honour of the 50th anniversary of the Bond Head/Bradford Garden Club and in celebration of the beauty and benefits of gardens.
Join us for a flag raising ceremony at 57 Holland St. E [Courthouse Courtyard] at 1pm on June 23, 2025, at 1pm.
