WHEREAS: a quality education is one of the foundational pillars for the success and continuity of any society, and in the Province of Ontario, the education of our youth is a priority; and
WHEREAS: providing all individuals—especially children—with access to an excellent education fosters knowledge, hope, and the opportunity for a brighter, kinder, and more united and prosperous future; and
WHEREAS: in order to achieve its highest goals, education must not only impart knowledge but also teach students how to live, shaping and strengthening their moral character to better their own lives and contribute meaningfully to society; and
WHEREAS: imparting moral and ethical values—principles that have been the bedrock of civilization since the dawn of time—creates a society rooted in responsibility, kindness, and integrity; and
WHEREAS: a global spiritual leader, the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson MH”M, is one of the most influential advocates for education, emphasizing that moral and ethical instruction empowers every individual to develop their full potential and make the world a better place; and
WHEREAS: such an education nurtures the unity of diverse peoples by inspiring increased acts of goodness and kindness, with the awareness that even a single positive act of an individual can change the world and usher in an era of global peace; and
WHEREAS: March 29, 2026, marks 124 years since the Rebbe’s birth and begins the celebrations of the 76th anniversary of his leadership of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, which has championed education as the key to fostering wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; and
WHEREAS: in April 1987, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney recognized the Rebbe’s vision by signing a Scroll of Honor on behalf of all Canadian citizens in tribute to his lifelong efforts in education and morality; and
WHEREAS: “Education & Sharing Day” is observed annually on the Rebbe's birthday to recognize his lasting contributions toward improving education, morality, and acts of charity around the world, and serves as a day to pause and reflect on our shared responsibility to provide youth with a foundation for a life rich in purpose, service, and good deeds;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim March 29, 2026 to be: EDUCATION AND SHARING DAY in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, and call upon everyone to work together to create a better, brighter, and more promising future for all.
