Bradford West Gwillimbury Fire and Emergency Services, in partnership with the South Simcoe Police Service, is inviting residents to attend a Community Open House on May 14, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
The event recognizes both Emergency Preparedness Week (May 3–9, 2026) and National Police Week (May 10–16, 2026). The 2026 Emergency Preparedness Week theme, “Be Prepared. Know Your Risks,” encourages residents to understand potential risks in their area and learn how to protect themselves and their households. This year’s National Police Week theme, “Committed to Serve Together,” highlights the important work police services do alongside fellow first responders and community partners to help build stronger, safer communities. It is this collaboration that forms the cornerstone of effective crime prevention and public safety initiatives.
The Open House offers residents of all ages an opportunity to meet local firefighters, police service members, learn more about their roles, and access important safety information. Guests can explore emergency vehicles, enjoy interactive displays, and watch live demonstrations.
The event is supported by several community partners, including County of Simcoe Emergency Management, Canadian Red Cross, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, Crime Stoppers, Victim Services of Simcoe County, Boots on the Ground, and others.
“This event is a great opportunity to connect with the community we proudly serve and strengthen the bond between us to build safer, more inclusive neighbourhoods where everyone feels valued and protected,” said representatives from both services.
In addition to demonstrations, attendees can enjoy games and activities, take photos with Sparky the Fire Dog, and participate in a variety of attractions, including Talk to Dispatch, Canine and Drone Unit demonstrations, specialized unit displays, and informational booths from local service providers.
“Events like this are a great opportunity for residents to connect with the firefighters, police officers, and community partners who work every day to keep Bradford West Gwillimbury safe,” said James Leduc, Mayor of Bradford West Gwillimbury. “By learning more about emergency preparedness and the important work of our first responders, residents can play an active role in helping build stronger, safer neighbourhoods.”
While the event is free to attend, residents are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item in support of the Bradford Helping Hand Foodbank.
