Transportation improvements prepare York Region to meet the needs of motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and transit users today and into the future.
CONTRACT 25-140
Description
Holland River Bridge is located east of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, along Highway 11, at the boundary between York Region and Simcoe County and is jointly-owned by the two municipalities.
York Region is rehabilitating the Holland River Bridge to ensure it remains in a state of good repair. This essential work is required to support the long-term integrity of the bridge and extend its service life.

The rehabilitation work includes:
• Removing and replacing the bridge deck joints in two stages
• Repairing the bridge girders
• Shifting traffic and closing half of the bridge as a work zone
Duration
Work on the bridge will happen in two stages between fall 2025 and fall 2026; repair work will be limited during the winter months.
• Stage one - between fall 2025 and winter 2025 on the south side of the bridge
• Stage two - between spring 2026 and fall 2026 on the north side of the bridge
• Work will occur Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Impacts to Travellers
• Traffic on the bridge will be shifted and reduced to one lane in each direction, expect delays, and allow extra travel time. In the winter, work on the bridge will be limited, and lane restrictions will be removed
• A temporary speed limit will be in place for safety
• Access to homes and businesses may be temporarily interrupted
• There is no impact to water services
Due to traffic shifting and lane restrictions on the bridge and road construction work on Highway 11 between Bathurst Street and Morning Sideroad, it is suggested the use traffic navigation tools to plan your commute and allow extra travel time.
As with all construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice where possible. Thank you for your patience during the construction period. We understand construction creates challenges for the community, and we are working to deliver this project with minimal disruption. If you have any questions or concerns, staff will be pleased to respond. Contact us using any method noted below and quote “Contract: 25-140” in your inquiry.
