The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 Youth Scholarship Program. Five scholarships, each valued at $1,000, will be awarded to local high school graduates and post-secondary students who are making a meaningful impact in their community.
Whether you're graduating from high school and preparing for your first year of post-secondary studies, or currently enrolled in a full-time program, this scholarship is designed to recognize and support youth who are leading, creating, innovating, and contributing to the future of BWG.
“We are incredibly proud of the young people in BWG who continue to show leadership, compassion, and creativity in so many ways,” said Mayor James Leduc. “This scholarship program is about more than financial support—it’s about recognizing youth who are helping shape a better future for our community. Council is committed to investing in their success.”
Launched by Council as part of the Youth Investment Grant and Scholarship Program and developed in partnership with the Youth Council Advisory Committee (YCAC), the program highlights the diverse interests, talents, and aspirations of local youth. Applicants can apply under one of five themed categories:
- Civic Leadership (e.g. political science, law, public administration)
- Arts & Culture (e.g. visual or performing arts, media, cultural studies)
- Environmental Stewardship (e.g. environmental science, ecology, geography)
- STEM & Innovation (e.g. science, technology, engineering, mathematics)
- Public Health & Social Development (e.g. social work, education, healthcare)
To be eligible, applicants must be BWG residents, either graduating from a local high school or currently enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution. Each applicant must submit a creative project exploring the importance of public service in BWG. This can take the form of a written essay (500–1,000 words), a short video presentation (3–5 minutes), or a visual/multimedia project with a written explanation (300–500 words). Only one application per student is permitted.
All required documents, including proof of enrollment or acceptance and a completed application form, must be submitted by Monday, November 10, 2025, at 4:00 PM EST. Late or incomplete applications may not be considered.
Submissions will be reviewed by the Youth Council Advisory Committee, with final recommendations approved by Council. Scholarship recipients will be notified by email and invited to a Regular Meeting of Council, where awards will be formally presented by members of Council and the YCAC.
