Fire & Emergency Services
The Fire and Emergency Services has greatly evolved from its traditional functions of fire suppression and fire prevention.
In addition to fire calls, the Fire Suppression unit responds to alarms for auto extrication and rescue, technical rope and confined space rescue, medical or ambulance support, hazardous material responses, as well as assistance during times of natural disasters.
The Fire Prevention Officer enforces the Ontario Fire Code for all occupied buildings falling under our jurisdiction, such as apartments, care facilities, commercial and industrial sites.

Ontario Fire Code
Life safety is the primary objective of the
Ontario Fire Code, though property protection requirements are included. The Ontario Fire Code contains safety measures for both the occupants of the building and the fire fighter. The Ontario Fire Code is enforced under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997. Fire Prevention Officers have authority to issue orders causing the removal of flammable, combustible, explosive materials or the removal of anything that may constitute a fire hazard which renders premises unsafe or dangerous.

Open Air Burning and Burn Permits
Recreational backyard fires are allowed in BWG only if the homeowner first receives a Burn Permit from BWG Fire & Emergency Services, and follows all of the provisions of the Town's Open Air Burning By-law.
Find out how to get a Burn Permit and learn about the things you must consider before taking responsibility for starting a fire on your property.
Check the current fire rating, learn more about the different levels and be aware that all Burn Permits are cancelled in the event that a fire ban is issued by the Fire Chief.
