Accessible and Inclusive Recreation
The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury promotes and encourages campers with any exceptionalities or disabilities to participate in a wide variety of activities offered by the Community Services Department. Our objective is to facilitate meaningful participation for all.
Assessing a Camper’s Need for Support:
In order to make camp a positive experience, please include at the time of registration, details on any special needs, allergies, personal care issues or medical concerns. Also, please let us know if your child requires inclusion support while at camp.
A camper requires extra support if any of the following apply:
- Is support required at school in the classroom?
- Does a physical, medical, developmental and/or learning disability exist that affects the safety of the participant or that of other participants?
- Is extra support needed at home for basic care such as dressing and toileting?
- Is the participant currently associated with a support agency or program?
- Will the specific program and type of activities within the camp program be suitable for the child’s needs, abilities and interests?
If you have answered YES to any of these questions, then your child may require support.
For Camp BWG inclusion support please contact N’Diia Maharaj, Recreation Supervisor at (905) 775 7529 ext. 8301.
Inclusion Facilitator Support:
The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury employs staff for the summer period to work specifically as inclusion support with children who have special needs, exceptionalities and/or a disability. The inclusion support is a limited resource and is available on a first come, first served basis and is available for a maximum of one week per child
An in person meeting and a Camper Profile Package is to be completed by each family prior to registering their child. All information is kept confidential. Communication and cooperation between all parties will ensure a safe and fun environment.
Prior to registering, call N’Diia Maharaj at (905) 775-7529 extension 8301 for a participant assessment and review if the program is suitable for providing support to your child. The Community Services Department wishes to ensure that your child’s needs are fully understood. Registering early allows us to plan an accessible recreational experience for your child.
The above process needs to be followed in all cases. Families requiring accommodations who do not disclose the needs of a participant prior to registration may be required to withdraw from the program. The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury refund policy will apply.
