Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury Receives Up to $94.8 Million to Support Housing and Infrastructure Growth

In an announcement earlier today, the governments of Ontario and Canada shared that the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury (BWG) will receive up to $94.8 million through the Development Charge Reduction Program (DCRP).

Development charges are an important tool that municipalities use to fund the infrastructure needed to support a growing community. However, those charges add tens of thousands of dollars to the cost of a new home, at a time when construction costs are already at historic highs. This funding recognizes the Town's commitment to reducing development charges by 30 to 76 per cent on new residential units built between March 30, 2026, and March 31, 2029.

“People want to build their future in BWG, but rising housing costs are making that dream more difficult to achieve,” said Mayor James Leduc. “This investment will fund the water, roads and fire services our growing community needs while lowering costs for homebuyers. We thank the governments of Ontario and Canada for their continued partnership.”

The reduction in development charges will lower the cost of building a new home by up to $36,500. When combined with the provincial and federal HST relief on new homes, BWG families could save up to $166,000 off the cost of a new home.
