Town to Treat Invasive Phragmites at Middletown Pond Title
The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury will be undertaking treatment to control invasive phragmites at Middletown Pond, located at 2691 Sideroad 10, on October 20 and 21, 2026, weather permitting.
Phragmites australis, commonly known as European common reed, is an invasive plant that can spread rapidly and displace native vegetation. The treatment is intended to control this invasive species.
The Town has engaged a licensed exterminator to apply Habitat Aqua, a herbicide approved for aquatic use to control invasive phragmites. The appropriate permits have been obtained from Ontario’s Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), and the treatment will be carried out by licensed professionals.
What residents need to know
There are no restrictions on recreational water use following the treatment, according to the treatment provider. Residents can continue to use the pond recreationally after treatment.
The work is scheduled for October 20 and 21, weather permitting.
