BWG Proclaims Mental Health Week 2026

May 4-10, 2026

WHEREAS
: mental health is an essential part of overall health and well-being, and contributes to the quality of life of all residents; and

WHEREAS:  Canadian Mental Health Association has led Mental Health Week initiatives across Canada for more than 70 years to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote mental well-being; and

WHEREAS: Mental Health Week will be recognized from May 4–10, 2026, providing an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and communities to come together to promote awareness and support mental health; and

WHEREAS: in any given year, 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental illness, and mental health challenges can affect individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and communities; and

WHEREAS: loneliness and social isolation are increasing concerns, and strong social connections are vital to supporting resilience and mental well-being; and

WHEREAS: the 2026 theme, “Come Together, Canada – Stronger connections. Better mental health.”, highlights the importance of connection, belonging, and community in fostering positive mental health; and

WHEREAS: Mental Health Week provides an opportunity to encourage understanding, reduce stigma, and promote inclusive and accessible communities where all individuals feel supported and valued;

Therefore, I, Mayor James Leduc, on behalf of Council, do hereby proclaim May 4–10, 2026 as Mental Health Week in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, and encourage residents, community organizations, and businesses to come together, foster meaningful connections, and support mental well-being in our community.
