Boulevard Standards
Boulevards are an important part of the Town’s right-of-way (ROW), typically located between the curb and a point extending past the sidewalk, often near the water shut-off valve. While they may appear to be part of private property, boulevards are owned and maintained by the Town to support essential infrastructure and safety.
To preserve their function, certain restrictions apply to how boulevards can be used or modified to ensure their function is maintained. To better understand these restrictions and standards please see below.
Below a list of what is PERMITTED and NOT PERMITTED in the Boulevard Row (any property below the red line as outlined in the Property Boundaries graphic)

Guidelines for Trees on Town Property can be found here. |
Features approved through a Town process are permitted (i.e. subdivision agreement encroachment agreement etc.).
Permitted items in the ROW may be removed if they impact Town operations or safety (e.g., obstructions, operational interference, roadway impacts).
The maximum permitted driveway width located on the private property will be allowed to continue to the traveled portion of the road. NO curb cuts are permitted.
Widening of the driveway entrance located on the boulevard is not permitted in the event the widening does not originate on the private property.
Clean Yards By-Law Amendment
The Clean Yards By-Law 2012-025 regulates care and maintenance of land. The By-Law has been updated to allow for consistency with boulevard maintenance.
The Clean Yards By-Law will now require residentially zoned property owners to maintain the adjacent boulevard free of tall grass (grass exceeding 20cm or 7.8 inches in height).
