PROCLAMATION: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Day
WHEREAS June 27th is recognized globally and across Canada as National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Day to highlight a critical mental health issue and promote healing; and
WHEREAS PTSD is a severe mental health condition that can occur after experiencing or witnessing one or more traumatic events, such as natural disasters, serious accidents, violence, or military combat; and
WHEREAS while PTSD can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, or background, individuals in high-risk professions such as military personnel, first responders, healthcare workers, and public safety personnel face an increased likelihood of experiencing trauma and workplace stress; and
WHEREAS overcoming the stigma associated with psychological injuries is essential to breaking down barriers, encouraging individuals to seek help early, and letting those who suffer know they are not alone; and
WHEREAS Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is highly treatable through professional care, therapies, and strong community support;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim June 27th, 2026, as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Day in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. We encourage all residents, businesses, and community leaders to raise awareness, support those living with PTSD, and foster a compassionate, stigma-free environment.
