The Clerk’s Division is an essential link between residents of BWG and Town Council. The Clerk is responsible for all statutory duties under the Municipal Act and other legislation. The Clerk and the Mayor are the corporate signing officers for the Corporation of the Township of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
The department oversees and manages a variety of administrative and legislative functions for the Town, including Town Council agendas and minutes, municipal elections and risk management. The Clerk records and processes requests under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and also ensures adherence to Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements. The Clerk's Department is responsible for the by-laws and licensing requirements that are administered and enforced by the Enforcement Division.
The Clerk also acts as a Commissioner of Oaths, which is a person that is empowered under provincial or state legislation to administer and witness the swearing of oaths or solemn affirmations in the taking of an affidavit for any potential legal matter. Commissioners of oaths are also empowered to witness any declaration as required under a statute.
