The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority has issued a Shoreline Hazard Watch – High Risk due to elevated water levels and ongoing wave activity on Lake Simcoe. Shoreline flooding is occurring or may occur in low-lying areas, and there remains an elevated risk of shoreline erosion and localized flooding. Residents in affected areas are advised to take appropriate precautions.

Town staff have taken precautionary measures in areas that may be more vulnerable to flooding and will continue to monitor the situation closely.

At this time, there are no significant impacts to report, however staff remain prepared to respond should conditions change.

Bradford West Gwillimbury Monitoring Water Level Conditions

Bradford West Gwillimbury, ON (April 17, 2026) – The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury continues to work closely with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, which is responsible for local flood forecasting, monitoring, and watershed conditions. Together, we are monitoring water levels across the community due to recent weather conditions.

Town staff have taken precautionary measures in areas that may be more vulnerable to flooding and will continue to monitor the situation closely.

“At this time, there are no significant concerns in Bradford West Gwillimbury,” said Mayoy James Leduc. “Our staff are monitoring conditions closely and working with our partners to stay informed. We encourage residents to take simple precautions and stay aware as conditions continue to evolve.”

According to the Town’s Drainage Superintendent, Frank Jonkman, some standing water in agricultural fields is typical for this time of year.

“Standing water in farm fields is quite normal during the spring as snowmelt and rainfall move through the drainage system,” said Jonkman. “We’ve already completed some precautionary work over the past few days to help mitigate potential flooding risks, particularly in higher-risk areas, and will continue working closely with the LSRCA to monitor conditions.”

Residents can help reduce the risk of localized flooding by taking a few simple steps:

• Check any ditches on or near your property and report any blockages
• Ensure catch basins near your home are free of debris (such as leaves or garbage)
• Report any areas where water flow appears restricted

Residents are reminded to stay back from shorelines and fast-moving water and to keep children and pets away from all water bodies.

If localized flooding occurs:

• Avoid travelling on roads near water, bridges, ravines, embankments, low-lying areas, and other bodies of water
• Do not drive through, stand, or walk in moving water
• If you are in your car and it begins to flood, exit the vehicle immediately and move to higher ground
