BWG's Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Strategy (CCMAS)
Consulting firm, Climate Compass Advisors, has been retained by the Town of BWG to develop a Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Strategy (CCMAS) to address climate change risks and help the community adapt to a changing climate.
Background
The CCMAS for Bradford West Gwillimbury aims to reduce both the municipalities and the broader community's carbon footprint while preparing for the impacts of climate change. Developed through consultation with residents, businesses, and experts, the strategy outlines specific actions in four key areas:
- Strong Governance: Strengthening municipal services, decision-making, and community engagement to integrate climate resilience into all levels of government and community activities.
- Resilient, Low-Carbon Infrastructure: Building sustainable, energy-efficient infrastructure and ensuring urban development that reduces greenhouse gas emissions, supports renewable energy, and promotes climate resilience.
- Thriving Natural Environment: Protecting and restoring natural areas, supporting biodiversity, and encouraging sustainable land use practices that mitigate climate change.
- Healthy and Prosperous Community: Enhancing community preparedness, addressing climate-related health risks, and fostering green economic opportunities through sustainable businesses and climate-smart investments
