Animal Services

BWG's Animal Services Division is dedicated to the protection and improvement of animal standards which intend to foster a safe community for pets and their owners.

Our services include:

  • Enforcement of Animal Control Bylaws and Regulations
  • Public Education
  • Municipal Livestock Investigations
  • Licensing of Dogs
  • Pet Adoption

Emergency after-hours services are provided for domestic animals that require immediate medical attention. Regular service requests including, found and contained dogs, poop and scoop, licensing, barking, and running at large, will be responded to during regular business hours.

Cat Related Services

BWG does not license cats and therefore, tags are not required. Although Animal Services does not patrol for stray cats, if you would like to report feral/wild cats or damage to property, please contact Animal Services to begin an investigation.

Bites

  • If you have been bitten by a dog, cat or wildlife, please contact Animal Services.
  • For a serious attack, please contact South Simcoe Police at 905 775 3311.
  • If a victim's skin is broken, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit must also be contacted at 705 721 7520 or
1 877 721 7520 to obtain rabies vaccination information and possible quarantine of the animal.

Animal Shelter Services

BWG is partnered with Alliston & District Humane Society (5545 Concession 4, Adjala-Tosorontio) to provide shelter services for the municipality. The shelter operates by appointment only.

If your dog is picked up by an officer, all efforts will be made to locate the owner through information on the dog license. If the owner cannot be located or contacted, or if the dog does not have a license, the dog will be transported the Alliston District Humane Society.

To determine if your dog has been taken to ADHS please contact Animal Services at 905-775-5366 ext. 1702. Please contact ADHS directly at (705) 458-9038 to make arrangements for pick up. If an animal is unclaimed for a period of five (5) days, the pet may be made available for adoption.
