Building and Permit Frequently Asked Questions
This section is designed to answer some of the common inquiries that are made to the Town’s Building Division.
When do I need a building permit?
In general, a building permit is required to erect, install, extend, alter, repair or demolish a building. For examples of projects that require a building permit, please see the Building Permit Requirements link on the right hand side.
NOTE: Although a building permit may not be required for some projects, you MUST still comply with the requirements of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury Zoning By-Law.
When do I not need a building permit?
The following construction projects do not require a building permit:
- Shingle(s) Replacement/Repair;
- Privacy Fences;
- Re-cladding (does not include stucco);
- Leaky Basement and/or Foundation;
- Closing off Porches;
- Kitchens; and
How do I get a building permit?

Note: The building department requires 10 business days to process each permit application.

Note: Please book your inspection with a minimum of 48 hours notice, however, next day service is usually available. The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury does not perform electrical inspections. The electrical inspections are performed by the Electrical Safety Authority (705) 726-5169.
