BWG Fields to Open for Public and Sports Programming Use in May

Bradford West Gwillimbury, ON (May 2, 2022) – After annual closures due to soft and saturated spring-time ground conditions, BWG's fields are set to open for public use and sports programming in the month of May.

Although our sports fields are an open and public space for all of our residents to enjoy, the Town of BWG does not begin to issue permits for sporting events until ground conditions are appropriate for regular use. During the winter-spring transition, melting snow causes a soft and saturated ground surface, and turf can easily damage. During this time, our residents are welcome to continue using our sports fields, but we encourage users to be mindful of the current ground conditions.

BWG's Community Services staff will begin assessing field conditions in early May, at which point they will determine if ground conditions are appropriate for regular use by the public and sports organizations. In the case that the grounds remain saturated in the coming weeks, we ask that large groups avoid using these spaces until we share an update with the public on our website and social media handles.

The Town of BWG works closely with local sports organizations during this time to keep them informed of our field conditions so they can organize outdoor sports programming accordingly. Typically, the Town begins issuing field-use permits starting May 24.

Parks and sports fields are available for informal play in all areas of the Town.  For a listing of our Soccer Pitches and Ball Diamonds visit: www.townofbwg.com/Docs/Services/Leisure/Sports-fields.pdf
