International Overdose Awareness Day

August 31

International Overdose Awareness Day is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose and to remember those who have died without stigma and acknowledge the grief of their family and friends left behind; and

Overdose has claimed the lives of 169 residents in Simcoe Muskoka in 2021, which was 25% higher than in 2020; and

Five of the deaths from 2021 occurred in Bradford West Gwillimbury with countless more lives affected forever; and

The people affected by overdose are sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, and deserve our compassion and support; and

We acknowledge the harm and hardship caused by drug overdose and that we all play our part in reducing the toll of overdose in our community.

That His Worship Mayor Rob Keffer and Members of Council proclaim August 31, 2022, as Overdose Awareness Day in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
