Pride Month

June 2022

​WHEREAS:

Every year, cities around the world recognize June as Pride Month – dedicated to the celebration of the LGBTQ2S+ community and culture, in support of LGBTQ2S+ rights; and​

WHEREAS:

Pride Month is a time to celebrate the LGBTQ2S+ community across Canada. It's also an opportunity to acknowledge the history, the hardships, and the challenges that the community has endured, along with celebrating the progress that has been made.​

WHEREAS:

In Canada, the first demonstrations took place in Ottawa and Vancouver in 1971. By 1973, Pride events were held in several Canadian cities, including Montréal, Ottawa, Saskatoon, Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg.

WHEREAS:

LGBTQ2S+ rights have come a long way, there’s still a lot that can be done to help improve the physical, mental and social wellbeing of the LGBTQ2S+ community; and

WHEREAS:

The Town of BWG celebrates the diversity of our LGBTQ2S+ communities and is committed to achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion within our organization and across our community.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That His Worship Mayor Rob Keffer and Members of Council proclaim June 2022 as PRIDE MONTH in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.​​
