PROCLAMATION
Pride Month
June 2022
WHEREAS:
Every year, cities
around the world recognize June as Pride Month – dedicated to the celebration
of the LGBTQ2S+ community and culture, in support of LGBTQ2S+ rights; and
WHEREAS:
Pride Month is a time
to celebrate the LGBTQ2S+ community across Canada. It's also an opportunity to
acknowledge the history, the hardships, and the challenges that the community
has endured, along with celebrating the progress that has been made.
WHEREAS:
In Canada, the first
demonstrations took place in Ottawa and Vancouver in 1971. By 1973, Pride
events were held in several Canadian cities, including Montréal, Ottawa,
Saskatoon, Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg.
WHEREAS:
LGBTQ2S+ rights have
come a long way, there’s still a lot that can be done to help improve the
physical, mental and social wellbeing of the LGBTQ2S+ community; and
WHEREAS:
The Town of BWG
celebrates the diversity of our LGBTQ2S+ communities and is committed to
achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion within our organization and across our
community.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That His Worship
Mayor Rob Keffer and Members of Council proclaim June 2022 as PRIDE
MONTH in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
