Construction Update: 177 Church Street

Bradford West Gwillimbury, ON (August 26, 2022) – Construction at 177 Church Street has resumed following the discovery of structural issues at the 1950s-era building.

Residents may have noticed a period of inactivity at the future Community Hub, but work is back on track after the project team devised a solution with minimal disruption to the construction schedule. After thorough assessment and consideration, further demolition has been authorized to bring the structure up to Building Code.

“The structural discovery has caused some minor changes to the overall scope of work on this project, but we remain on-time and on-budget. Although further demolition was not the outcome we were hoping for, it is necessary to ensure the overall structural integrity of the building."
– Terry Foran, Director of Community Services, Town of BWG.

As we continue with demolition and debris removal over the next few weeks, neighbouring residents may experience some disturbances including noise and dust/debris. Residents may also experience minor vibration as the contractor completes backfilling and compaction at the site in preparation for concrete pouring.

“I know projects like this can be difficult on residents, especially those living next to a construction zone. I understand there are increased disturbances like noise and dust during demolition but we are doing our very best to get through this phase of the project as quickly as possible. I thank all residents for their patience and understanding, and look forward to opening this new community facility."
– Rob Keffer, Mayor, Town of BWG.

The demolition phase of the project is expected to be completed in September, and building reconstruction will commence once the structural steel is delivered (estimated October). At this time, we are not expecting any significant delays in the project schedule and remain optimistic about achieving a Summer 2023 completion date. Should major delays or setbacks occur, we will share updates with residents.
