The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury goes through a comprehensive process every year to determine how much money will be required to maintain existing programs and service levels and meet regulatory requirements, as well as make any additions or improvements needed.
The process beings in the summer, when each department analyzes their current and future needs and drafts a proposed budget. The draft is then reviewed by Council to ensure that their priorities for the year are addressed while keeping any taxes increase to an absolute minimum. This process is always difficult for decision makers, who are frequently faced with a choice between enhancing services and keeping tax rates low. Property taxes in BWG also support the BWG Public Library, South Simcoe Police Services, public and separate school boards and the County of Simcoe, so any increases being made by those groups needs to be factored in as well to the overall tax rate.
