Business Licensing
The Business Licensing By-law sets out provisions to license, regulate and govern certain types of businesses operating within the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Adult Entertainment Establishment
An Adult Entertainment Establishment Licence is required to provide services designed to appeal to erotic or sexual appetites or inclinations, or to operate an establishment where these activities take place.
When applying for an Adult Entertainment Establishment Licence you will be required to submit the following:
- Complete
application form

Police Record Check (dated within 90 days and received from the Police Service where you reside)
- Registered business information
- Proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or eligibility to work in Canada
- Certificate of general liability insurance ($2,000,000 minimum)
- Zoning approval (call the BWG Planning Department: 905-775-5369)
- Floor plan
Approvals from each of the departments below are required before the license will be issued:
- Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (705-458-1103)
- BWG Fire & Emergency Services (905-775-7311)
- BWG Building Department (905-775-5369)
- BWG By-law Enforcement (905-775-5366)
The Adult Entertainment Establishment Licence is valid for one (1) year and expires on January 31. The fee for the license is $250 or $200 for a renewal (charges from external agencies may apply).

Donation Bin
A Donation Bin Licence is required to install any donation bin within the Town of Bradford West Gwillibury.
A donation bin is a receptacle located outdoors and placed, installed, displayed, operated, used, altered or maintained for the purpose of collecting donated items from the public, including but not limited to: clothing, appliances, electronics, household items, metal, paper, recyclables and toys, but does not include a receptacle located within a building or a receptacle owned or operated by the Town.
When applying for a Donation Bin Licence you will be required to submit the following:
- Complete
application form
- Photo identification (driver's licence or passport are acceptable)
- Complete
property owner consent form
- Non-profit information (if applicable)
- Certificate of general liability insurance ($2,000,000 minimum)
- Zoning approval, permitted in commercial zones only (to verify Zoning compliance please contact Community Planning at 905-775-5369 xt. 1400)
- Site plan
The Donation Bin Licence is valid for one (1) year and expires on January 31. Click to see applicable fees.

Hawkers and Peddlers
A Hawkers and Peddlers Licence is required for every person who goes from place to place or to a particular place with goods, wares, merchandise or services for sale (please see end of this section for info on banned door-to-door sales).
When applying for a Hawkers and Peddlers Licence you will be required to submit the following:
- Complete
application form
- Police Records Check (dated within 90 days and received from the Police Service where you reside)
- Photo identification (driver's licence or passport are acceptable)
- Registered business information
- Proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or eligibility to work in Canada
- Certificate of general liability insurance ($2,000,000 minimum)
- Zoning approval if stationary (to verify Zoning compliance please contact Community Planning at 905-775-5369 ext. 1400)
- Site plan (if stationary)
The Hawkers and Peddlers Licence is valid for one (1) year and expires on January 31. The fee for the licence is $75 or $70 for a renewal (charges from external agencies may apply).

As of March 1st 2018, a ban on unsolicited door-to-door sales on select products and services came into effect in Ontario. This means that certain products and services can no longer be offered or sold at your home. These restricted products and services include:
furnaces
air conditioners
air cleaners
air purifiers
water heaters
water treatment devices
water purifiers
water filters
water softeners
duct cleaning services
any good or service that performs or combines one or more of the above functions
There are some exceptions to the ban including where you already have a contract in place or if you, the consumer, initiate the transaction (calling or emailing a business to come to your home).
Kennel
A Kennel Licence is required in order to operate a kennel where animals are kept overnight for remuneration for the purposes of breeding, housing, feeding and/or maintenance.
When applying for a Kennel Licence you will be required to submit the following:
- Complete
application form
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within 90 days and received from the Police Service where you reside)
- Photo identification (driver's license or passport are acceptable)
- Registered business information
- Certificate of general liability insurance ($2,000,000 minimum)
- Zoning approval (to verify Zoning compliance please contact Community Planning at 905-775-5369 ext. 1400)
- Site plan

The Kennel Licence is valid for one (1) year and expires on June 30. The fee for the licence is $300 or $200 for a renewal (charges from external agencies may apply).

Refreshment Vehicle - Owner
A Refreshment Vehicle Owner Licence is required to own a vehicle that is used (or designated to be used) for the sale of refreshments and includes a motorized vehicle and a refreshment cart.
When applying for a Refreshment Vehicle Owner Licence you will be required to submit the following:
- Complete
application form
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within 90 days and received from the Police Service where you reside)
- Photo identification (driver's licence or passport are acceptable)
- Safety Standards Certificate (if mobile)
- Vehicle registration
- Driver's abstract (dated within 90 days, if vehicle is mobile)

Refreshment Vehicle - Operator
A Refreshment Vehicle Operator Licence is required to operate a vehicle that is used (or designated to be used) for the sale of refreshments and includes a motorized vehicle and a refreshment cart.
When applying for a Refreshment Vehicle Operator Licence you will be required to submit the following:
- Complete
application form
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within 90 days and received from the Police Service where you reside)
- Photo identification (driver's license or passport are acceptable)
- Driver's abstract (dated within 90 days, and if vehicle is mobile)
- Proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or eligibility to work in Canada
The Refreshment Vehicle Operator Licence is valid for one (1) year and expires April 30. The fee for the licence is $100 or $90 for a renewal (charges from external agencies may apply).

Taxicab - Broker
A Taxicab Business Licence is required to accept and dispatch calls from the public to taxicabs owned/operated by others.
When applying for a Taxicab Business Licence you will be required to submit the following:
- Complete
application form
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within 90 days and received from the Police Service where you reside)
- Photo identification (driver's licence or passport are acceptable)
- Registered business information
- Proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or eligibility to work in Canada
- Certificate of general liability insurance ($2,000,000 minimum)
- Zoning approval (to verify Zoning compliance please contact Community Planning at 905-775-5369 ext. 1400)
The Taxicab Business Licence is valid for one (1) year and expires on March 31. The fee for the licence is $300 or $200 for a renewal (charges from external agencies may apply).

Taxicab - Operator
A Taxicab Operator Licence is required to operate a taxicab within Bradford West Gwillimbury. A taxicab is defined as a motor vehicle that is designed or customarily used for the transportation of passengers, where such motor vehicle is offered or made available for hire together with a driver for the conveyance of passengers or goods.
When applying for a Taxicab Operator Licence you will be required to submit the following:
- Complete
application form
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within 90 days and received from the Police Service where you reside)
- Photo identification (driver's licence or passport are acceptable)
- Drivers abstract (dated within 90 days)
- Proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or eligibility to work in Canada
The Taxicab Operator Licence is valid for one (1) year and expires on March 31. The fee for the license is $100 or $90 for a renewal (charges from external agencies may apply).

Taxicab - Plate
A Taxicab Plate is required to operate a vehicle that is used for the transportation of passengers where such motor vehicle is offered or made available for hire. Please note there is a cap on the number of licensed taxicabs permitted in Bradford West Gwillimbury.
When applying for a Taxicab Plate you will be required to submit the following:
- Complete
application form
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within 90 days and received from the Police Service where you reside)
- Photo identification (driver's license or passport are acceptable)
- Drivers abstract (dated within 90 days, if vehicle is mobile)
- Proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or eligibility to work in Canada
- Safety Standards Certificate (if mobile)
- Vehicle registration
An inspection by the Licensing Officer will take place once all documentation is received and the vehicle is in compliance with the requirements of the Business Licensing By-law.
The Taxicab Plate is valid for one (1) year and expires on April 30. The fee for the plate is $150 or $100 for a renewal (charges from external agencies may apply).

If the business you are interested in is not listed above, no licence is required by the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
