Town of BWG receives funding to rehabilitate Bond Head sidewalks

Bradford West Gwillimbury, ON (June 28, 2021) – The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is very pleased to be the recipients of almost $400K in federal/provincial funding in support of a project to replace and install new sidewalks in Bond Head.

The Town of BWG applied for the funding in order to improve pedestrian access to the streets of Bond Head, including to meet standards under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). The project was approved for $78,965.80 in provincial funds and $315,863.20 in federal funds.

The governments of Canada and Ontario are investing more than $22.2 million through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Plan (ICIP) COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream (CVRIS) to protect the health and well-being of residents in 130 municipalities across Eastern Ontario.

“When it became clear how much it was going to cost to bring the sidewalks in Bond Head up to a condition that would allow everyone to get around safely and easily, including meeting AODA standards, we started looking for a way to address the problem without impacting municipal taxes,” said Mayor Rob Keffer. “We are thrilled that our application to the ICIP was successful and we are looking forward to moving on to the next stages of this project.”

A tender has been put out for the work and it is anticipated to be completed by this fall.

Town of BWG Mayor Rob Keffer, York-Simcoe MPP Caroline Mulroney and Town of BWG Ward 4 Councillor Ron Orr check out the sidewalks in Bond Head. Sidewalks will be rehabilitated to be brought up to AODA standards.
