PROCLAMATION:
Black History Month
February 2022
WHEREAS:
Black History Month is a time to learn about the stories and many important contributions of local Black Canadians to the settlement, growth and development of Simcoe County, and about diversity of Black communities in Canada and their importance to the history of this country; and
WHEREAS:
the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury encourages people throughout our community to recognize Black History Month as an opportunity to embrace diversity and to foster belonging and inclusion; and
WHEREAS:
during Black History Month, Canadians celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians who have and continue to do so much to make Canada the culturally diverse nation it is today; and
WHEREAS:
Council of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury
unequivocally states that Black Lives Matter and acknowledges that systemic racism exists in our community; and
WHEREAS:
Council is committed to taking the necessary steps to eradicate anti-Black racism and acknowledges that it must take a leadership role along with other community partners and public agencies in the effort to end discrimination.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That His Worship Mayor Rob Keffer and Members of Council proclaim February 2022 as BLACK HISTORY MONTH in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
