PROCLAMATION:
“Movember”
November 2021
WHEREAS:
Men in Canada have a one in eight chance of being diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and 11 Canadian men die of prostate cancer every day. Males account for 75% of suicides in Canada, with an average of 50 Canadian men dying by suicide each week; and
WHEREAS:
Movember Canada is committed to raising awareness and funds to tackle men's health issues – including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health issues and suicide prevention; and
WHEREAS:
During this month, both men and women are encouraged to take action to help raise awareness and funds for these issues. The Movember Canada organization offers suggestions for how to get involved – from growing a moustache to walking a virtual marathon or hosting an event – as well as suggestions for how to talk to the men in your life who might be struggling with mental health; and
WHEREAS:
Together "Mo Bros" and "Mo Sistas" start conversations about men's health, raise much-needed funds for research and projects and dedicate themselves to the general appreciation of moustachery.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That His Worship Mayor Rob Keffer and Members of Council proclaim the month of November as “Movember” in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
