PROCLAMATION: Women's Institute Day
February 19, 2021
WHEREAS:
For 124 years, Women’s Institute members have actively worked together for family, home, community and country. The objective of the first Women’s Institute branch, formed in Stoney Creek on February 19, 1897, was to improve women’s skills in the art of homemaking and childcare; and
WHEREAS:
The Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO) was organized in 1919, giving Members a stronger voice by working together as a united group. Through education, support programs and services, FWIO’s original focus expanded to include personal growth opportunities, government lobbying and health and community wellness projects; and
WHEREAS:
Today, FWIO has approximately 3,500 Members in over 280 Branches across Ontario; and
WHEREAS:
The Bond Head Women's Institute was formed in 1920, and the Tec We Gwill Women's Institute was founded in 1947, providing women in southern Simcoe County a place to learn, share and support one another and our community.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That His Worship Mayor Rob Keffer and Members of Council proclaim February 19, 2021 as WOMEN’S INSTITUTE DAY in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
