Serve your community by volunteering for a Local Board or Committee

The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is seeking applications from residents who are interested in helping their community by serving on a local board or committee for the term of Council. Applicants must be 18 years of age and a current resident of Bradford West Gwillimbury. Applicants must be able to participate in meetings conducted either in-person or electronically. The following positions are available:

Holland Marsh Drainage System Joint Municipal Service Board

​The Holland Marsh Drainage System Joint Municipal Service Board is a joint local board created by agreement with the Township of King and the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.  The Board consists of two residents of the Town of BWG and two residents of King Township who carry on farming practices within the Holland Marsh and one additional member of the public chosen by the board at-large and appointed by each municipality.  Four members of Council are also appointed: two from the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury and two from the Township of King.

The purpose of this Board is to carry out all the responsibilities of each municipality under the Drainage Act and to oversee and manage the Holland Marsh Drainage System.  This includes preparation of an annual business plan and reporting to the respective Councils.

Meetings are held in King Township and Bradford West Gwillimbury a minimum of six times per year.  Members of the board are paid an honorarium for each meeting attended.

​Committee of Adjustment

The Committee of Adjustment is an independent body appointed by Council under authority granted by the Province through the Planning Act.  The purpose of this committee is to consider minor variances to the Town's Zoning By-law, consider alterations to legal non-conforming uses and grant consent approval for the severance of land.

Meetings are held as required, usually monthly.  Members of the committee are paid mileage and an honorarium.


BWG Public Library Board

The BWG Public Library Board is an independent body appointed by Council under authority granted by the Public Libraries Act and its regulations.  The Library Board is responsible for the provision of a free public library service that reflects the unique needs of the community. 

The Library Board is accountable to municipal Council and the budget is approved by Council annually.  Roles and responsibilities include strategic planning, policy making, financial responsibility and advocacy.  To serve on the Library Board you must be at least 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada with the meaning of the Immigrant and Refugee Protection Act (Canada), a resident of the municipality and cannot be employed by the Library Board or municipality.

Meetings are held monthly at the BWG Library and Cultural Centre, 425 Holland Street West.  Members of the board are paid an honorarium.


Residents interested in any of these volunteer positions should submit their letter of interest or resume outlining their background and pertinent information detailing: their experience and why they are interested in serving on the Local Board/Committee and highlight any work-related community service projects or other volunteer activities they have been involved with.

Letters of interest must be received by Clerks Division by Friday​, November 25, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.

An applicant's information may be discussed by Council or Committee during a public meeting during the recruitment process. 

All personal information submitted is collected pursuant to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and will be used for the purposes of making appointments to local boards and committees. Questions regarding this collection may be directed to the Deputy Clerk.
