PROCLAMATION
International Women’s Day
March 8, 2023
WHEREAS:
International Women’s
Day is recognized and celebrated annually around the world on March 8; and
WHEREAS:
The International
Women's Day 2023 campaign theme is #EmbraceEquity,
emphasizing that equity isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have, and that
gender equity needs to be part of every society's DNA; and
WHEREAS:
#EmbraceEquity seeks to help forge a worldwide conversation about
the difference between 'equity' and 'equality' and why it
is important to understand, acknowledge and value that equal opportunities
aren't enough; and
WHEREAS:
Equity and equality are
inherently different concepts. Equality means each individual or group of
people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes
that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources
and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome; and
WHEREAS:
The Town of Bradford
West Gwillimbury recognizes that through equity we can achieve equality and that people's needs aren't always the same and we
often need different things to succeed.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim March 8, 2023, as INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
