Fire Prevention Week

October 9-15, 2022


WHEREAS:

The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury’s Fire and Emergency Services is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting our Town; and

WHEREAS: 

Fire is a serious public safety concern both locally and nationally, and homes are where people are at greatest risk from fire; and​

WHEREAS: 

Today’s homes burn faster than ever. You may have as little as two minutes to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning; and​

​WHEREAS: 

Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871, and caused devastating damage, killing more than 250 people, leaving 100,000 homeless, and burning more than 2,000 acres of land; and

​WHEREAS: 

Since 1922, the National Fire Prevention Association has sponsored the public observance of Fire Prevention Week, marking 2022 as its 100th Anniversary; and

​​WHEREAS: 

This year’s campaign theme is Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape™ to promote educate everyone about simple but important actions people can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from house fires; and

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That His Worship Mayor Rob Keffer and Members of Council proclaim October 9-15, 2022, as Fire Prevention Week in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.​
