The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury’s Building Division staff will issue permits and inspect properties, as quickly as possible - if you provide complete and accurate information.

  • Review all of the information we provide you.
  • We assign building inspectors to your file long before you have to register your plan.
  • Permit administrators provide general information or direct you to a building inspector for technical information. 

Note: Although considered a Residential Construction project, the construction of privacy fencing does not require the acquisition of a building permit.

Common Home Construction Projects

​Description

Accessory Dwelling Units​In order to establish an accessory dwelling unit, one must follow 2 registration process set out by the Planning and Development Services Department.
Accessory Structures​Refers to the construction of an accessory building such as a carport or garage. Also includes sheds.
Addition / Alteration​Refers to the modification of an existing building. This includes the construction of a new addition, alterations and changes in use.
Basement Finishing​Refers to the interior finishing of basement areas, including framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and insulation.
Decks​Decks are an extension of the main dwelling unit and as such must be designed and constructed to withstand all superimposed loads.
​Demolition​Demolition permits are required when demolishing a building within a residential area.
Septic Systems​The installation or repair of a septic system, for which a building permit is required.
Swimming Pool Enclosures​Constitutes the installation of a swimming pool, spa, and/or hot-tub, for which a building permit is required.
Tents​A building permit is required for a tent or group of tents that is more than 60 sq. metres (645 sq. ft.) in aggregate ground area
