Local Government Week
Local Government Week takes place in October of each year, with the aim of increasing youth and public awareness about the important role local government plays in our communities. It is directly tied to the Grade 5 social studies curriculum, and provides Ontario students, educators and municipalities the opportunity to engage one another on how their communities work.
Local Government Week is a joint initiative of the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO), Council of Directors of Education of Ontario (CODE), Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH), Ministry of Education, Ontario municipalities and the Ontario Teachers Federation.
Each year an open house is held at the BWG Leisure Centre. It is open to the public, and grade 5 students are specifically invited to attend and take part in related activities.
For more information on Local Government Week, please contact the Clerk's Division.
